Bargaining Unit: Local 1 - Family and Children's Services Unit

The Community Services Bureau in the Employment and Human Services Department is offering employment opportunity on hourly bases in a role for Associate Teacher – Project Substitute. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate to work with young children ages 0-5 years old in a classroom setting in state-of-the art licensed childcare facilities. The position is assigned to the Head Start/Early Head Start and/or Child Development Programs in the Community Services Bureau. These programs are designed to promote the social, emotional, cognitive, creative, physical and linguistic development of young children.

The Associate-Teacher Substitute is authorized to provide services and instruction to children in pre-school and Infant/Toddler classroom settings. Under supervision, assists in planning, organizing and conducting variety of classroom activities for the children enrolled in the program.

Incumbents in this class are exempt from the classified service and work in Federally and or State funded project positions administered by Contra Costa County.

Assists in assessing needs of children enrolled in the programAssists in organizing the children's learning environmentAssists in planning and implementing the developmental programsAssists in working with parents in building a relationship of mutual respect and cooperationModels appropriate behavior for the children and other adultsMakes verbal and written reports of suspected child abuse to Child Protective Services and reports unusual incidents to Community Care LicensingPerforms duties and responsibilities of the Teacher-Project during hours when the Teacher-Project is not assigned to the classroomReports issues of concern to the Site SupervisorPerforms other tasks as may be required for the efficient operation of the instruction program Qualifications Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D.

equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate and successful completion of 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development that meet the Commission on Teacher Credentialing requirements for the Child Development Associate Teacher permit.

If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances.

Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County.

If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERAll Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law.
