The Department of Revenue is seeking a Tax Examiner 1 to join a team of tax professionals in the Bureau of Registration and Taxpayer Management, Account Maintenance Section.

In this role, you will learn to examine business tax accounts and associated tax documents, complete work items involving duplicate customer accounts, update demographics, and modify customer accounts to allow returns and payments to be posted accurately.

Requirements

As a Tax Examiner 1, you will learn to navigate myPath to assist taxpayers in creating login credentials for the purpose of registering for business tax accounts, filing returns and payments, inputting customer information, and resetting passwords.

You will use various systems to research and analyze customer information to complete work tasks.

Some duties include correcting registration errors, updating demographics, and maintaining complex tax accounts, ensuring licenses and certificates have been issued correctly and in a timely manner.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Retrieve and examine various business tax suspensions, Individual Returns, and Business Returns
  • Create tax profiles and expectations for various suspended returns or payments
  • Examine and generate customer filing obligations while determining the correct filing frequency.
  • Initiate transfer payments and returns from one customer to another within the PATH system
  • Respond to customers' inquiries by telephone, email, fax, or MyPath online request.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Commonwealth tax laws, regulations, procedures, and policies
  • Be mindful of internal controls and risk management when changes are made to a process.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of general office work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have customer service experience.
  • You must have experience handling incoming/outgoing phone calls.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.

Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
