This job involves reviewing corporation tax returns and documents to ensure they follow Pennsylvania state tax rules, making corrections, and helping taxpayers by phone or mail to fix or complete their filings.
You'll use a system called PATH to enter data and research information to keep tax accounts accurate.
It's a great fit for someone detail-focused with basic office experience who wants on-the-job training and chances to grow in government tax work.

As a Tax Examiner 1, you will receive and review various tax returns and documents for compliance, make necessary corrections and additions, and enter information into PATH.
You will have the opportunity to communicate with taxpayers or their representatives by telephone or by correspondence to obtain additional information when required to either correct and complete a return or to assist with preparing a return based on other taxpayer provided information.
Work includes researching files using several sources for information needed to correct a tax document, responding to an inquiry, and adjusting tax accounts to reflect accurate information.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to three days a week.
In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
