Full Job Description

The Department of Revenue, Corporation Tax Division of the Bureau of Business Tax Return Processing is on the lookout for a detail-oriented Tax Examiner 1 to join the team. This position will allow you to develop the knowledge to receive and review various corporation tax returns and documents for compliance with state tax laws and regulations to determine liability. Requirements

As a Tax Examiner 1, you will receive and review various tax returns and documents for compliance, make necessary corrections and additions, and enter information into PATH.

You will have the opportunity to communicate with taxpayers or their representatives by telephone or by correspondence to obtain additional information when required to either correct and complete a return or to assist with preparing a return based on other taxpayer provided information.

Work includes researching files using several sources for information needed to correct a tax document, responding to an inquiry, and adjusting tax accounts to reflect accurate information.

You will learn to:

• Receive written inquiries and taxpayer documents which are manually imaged by the tax examiner
• Receive Insurance Memos from the Department of Insurance
• Assist the taxpayers with filing Corporation Taxes
• Post return transactions to PATH

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to three days a week.

In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of general office work; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirement:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirement:

This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.

Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
