Requirements

As an Environmental Trainee, you will engage in a year-long training program that includes hands-on experience to prepare you for the role of a Surface Mine Conservation Inspector.

Upon successful completion, you will be promoted to this position, where your responsibilities will involve overseeing compliance for District Mining Operations and the Bureau of Mining Programs.

Your primary objective will be to protect the environment while ensuring public health and safety.

You will also address public complaints regarding issues such as blasting, water supply degradation, environmental damage, and health concerns, adhering to the guidelines outlined in the Department’s Technical Guidance Document.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel will be required
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.


Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
