GS-08 QUALIFICATIONS One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Reviewing and processing a wide variety of complex military payroll transactions, determining entitlements, examining and verifying all documents for propriety, completeness and accuracy, reviewing and processing final actions to resolve various complicated military payroll problems or issues using variety of techniques.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher grade in Federal Service.

GS-09 QUALIFICATIONSOne year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-08) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Applying expert-level knowledge of a large body of military pay rules, procedures and operations sufficient to process pay actions requiring audits, corrections, and adjustments of several interrelated aspects of military pay, sufficient to provide leadership, training and support to others responsible for this work, experience must include applying expert-level knowledge of related payroll systems sufficient to take necessary intervention and bypass of normal automated systems and procedures, and resolve issues within the automated systems.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-08 or higher grade in Federal Service.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, establish priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Provide guidance to Military Pay Technicians on complex problems or rejected transactions affecting retiree and annuitant pay accounts.
  • Review work with the authority to accept, amend or reject, to insure acceptable quality and quantity.
  • Perform internal personnel administration and management tasks.
  • Initiate personnel actions involving promotions, status changes, awards, disciplinary actions and separations.
