Summary

This job involves managing the storage, inventory, and shipping of hazardous materials like radioactive items in a defense logistics warehouse, including tasks like checking stock, fixing record errors, and preparing reports on discrepancies.

Key Requirements

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.

To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.

Creditable specialized experience includes: Conducting physical inventories and location surveys.

Investigating stock/record/material discrepancies impacting inventory balances or Supply Discrepancy Reports (SDRs). Preparing reports concerning results of investigations performed. B.

Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Incumbent is routinely handling hazardous property.

Work is performed in office settings and warehouses. Work requires standing on hard surfaces maintaining balance for extended periods of time.

Requires bending, stooping, reaching and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.

Heavier items may lift greater weights with assistance from others or using materials handling equipment.

Must be capable of accomplishing emergency escape procedures from a captive aisle stock selector at heights of 40 feet.

Work Environment: Workers may be exposed to hazardous vapors, liquids, powders and solids and the possibility of cuts and bruises.

May be subject to hazards of working close to moving equipment, for example, forklifts, truck and conveyor lines.

The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions such as working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to adverse weather conditions; or exposure to irritant chemicals.

Employees maybe required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, coats, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection and/or gloves. Major Duties:

  • Performs a wide variety of work assignments pertaining to Hazardous Material (HM) such as Radioactive Material (RAM) in a self-contained distribution operation. Provides research and program support for all screening actions.
  • Researches computer rejects on MROs, initiates corrective action by updating and correcting shipment records and computer files
  • Ensures that the Centers quality and timeliness goals are met by performing core workload duties. These duties include performing receipts, stow, stock selection, bin face counts, packing and shipping processes.
  • Specialized knowledge through formal training of technical/certifiable aspects of shipping hazardous material is required every two (2) years with a passing grade for retention in the position
  • Thorough knowledge of agency, Federal, and international packing and shipping requirements for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • The ability to recognize materials which require specialized procedures to safely handle, pack, store, label, and ship hazardous materials within prescribed rules, regulations, procedures, and set guidelines.
  • The work requires the ability to research problems as they relate to hazardous and RAM property processing, as well as the ability to understand regulatory and policy guidance from higher authority.
  • Due to the nature of hazardous property, duties are performed utilizing reference publications and established operating procedures.
