This position serves as Supply Technician (NX) for the Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System.
As a Supply Technician, you will provide service lines and other hospital facilities with equipment and material.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Applying standardized supply regulations, policies, procedures, or other instructions relating to the specific functions assigned; using automated supply data bases to enter, correct, and retrieve recurring reports and to structure and retrieve specialized reports; applying knowledge of structure of the local supply organization and the organizations serviced; performing duties concerned with preparing, maintaining and publishing agency stock lists.
OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience.
To qualify based on education for this grade level you must possess a Bachelor's Degree in any field or 4 years of progressively higher level post high school education leading to a Bachelor's Degree in any field.
This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level.
You must have an combination of specialized experience and education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. For example, the position to be filled is a Supply Technician, GS-5.
One possesses 9 months of specialized experience and 75 semester hours of college (15 semester hours beyond the second year and the equivalent of 3 months of specialized experience).
He/she meets 75 percent of the required experience and 25 percent of the required education.
He/she meets 100 percent of the requirement for 1 year of specialized experience and is qualified for the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds).
Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.

Major Duties:
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Reviews existing stock and manufacturers' catalogs, manuals and listings to obtain substitute or interchangeable items to supply in lieu of items requisitioned.
Communicates with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding availability and functionality of non-expandable equipment and supplies.
Provides guidance to customers on identification of material through research of original equipment manufacturers part catalog for part numbers, descriptions, and size of parts needed.
Processes applicable catalog update transactions in accordance with current published procedures.
Periodically, reviews assigned manufacturers code and part numbers for continued validity and takes necessary action to update, delete, or dispose of in accordance with published guidelines.
Interacts with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists as needed.
Communicates to the lead or supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures, providing information as needed orally or in writing regarding customer or external stakeholder issues, general telephone inquiries and visitor referrals.
Coordinates drop-off of new or transferred equipment and pick up of turn in equipment; scanner pick up and drop off for annual Electronic Inventory Listing (EIL) inventory; and delivery times and area with contractors and vendors with other VA activities, contractors or manufacturers through personal transactions.
Reviews numerous computer output listings in the performance of research and identification of supplies as well as prepares system inquires and interpret the responses.
Receives non-expendable equipment and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area.
Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons and properly scans, bar codes, and stores supplies and material.
Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing a computerized inventory system, to ensure integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system.
Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management system.
Delivers equipment in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring equipment and material delivered are in operational condition.
Processes receipt and turn-in transaction to record in the equipment system of record and account for incoming materiel.
