The Central Texas Health Care System is recruiting for a highly qualified Supervisory Transportation Assistant for our Medical Administration Service located in Temple, Texas.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/10/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: awareness of management discussions, decisions, and policy-making concerning workload; travel consults and advises his/her immediate supervisor, Assistant Chief/Chief, MAS and facility POC's of all relating matters; management and oversight of all beneficiary travel requirements, to include consults for routine outpatient appointments, community transport of patients for care, local transportation contracts, and budgetary requirements; knowledge of reimbursement travel/beneficiary travel and special mode travel.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work.

Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.

Major Duties:
Major duties include, but are not limited to: The incumbent is knowledgeable of overall facility and network goals, missions and priorities to ensure all workload is captured timely and correctly and does not impact adversely upon other programs or resources.
Has awareness of management discussions, decisions, and policy-making concerning workload; travel consults and advises his/her immediate supervisor, Assistant Chief/Chief, MAS and facility POC's of all relating matters.
The incumbent integrates program objectives and planning within facility operations to ensure goals and priorities are complementary and in congruence with the overall national requirements.
Has direct responsibility for management and oversight of all beneficiary travel requirements, to include consults for routine outpatient appointments, community transport of patients for care, local transportation contracts, budgetary requirements encompassing 9.5 million dollars yearly, and fund control points.
The budgetary requirements include knowledge of reimbursement travel/beneficiary travel and special mode travel.
Provides guidance to clinical staff relative completion of requirements to support patient movements to include; training, tracking completion of consults, assisting with alternate means of travel, coordinating services with contractors, assessing workload to determine resource allocation.
Provides technical and administrative supervision to a unit of ten employees spread throughout CTVHCS.
The incumbent will have positions assigned directly to him/her to support data validation, budget/funding for 1358s and 2237s, administrative relative to Veteran travel contracts supporting the CBOCs, Beneficiary Travel, Special Mode Travel, and general oversight of the well-being of the service.
The incumbent may be delegated appropriate authorities in the absence higher level management officials within the service and will make local decisions directly related to the service' scope of work.
The incumbent oversees the daily operation of the Beneficiary Travel Unit, ensures that agency policies and priorities are being followed; develops performance standards; and evaluates work performance of subordinates.
The incumbent gives advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
The incumbent hears and resolves minor complaints from employees; refers group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to the Chief/Assistant Chief MAS; effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and recommends action in more serious cases.
The incumbent interviews candidates for positions in the service; recommends appointments, promotions, and reassignments to service positions; identifies and provides for training needs; and finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of work within the area of authority.
