Summary

This job involves leading a team that ensures the quality and safety of aircraft, ground systems, and operations at NASA's flight research center in California.

Full Job Description

As a Supervisory Quality Assurance Specialist (Branch Chief) you will serve as a senior technical and supervisory leader within the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate at NASA AFRC, responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating the AFRC's Quality Assurance program.

You will provide leadership to a multidisciplinary workforce who conduct inspections, audits, surveillance, and technical assessments supporting flight research aircraft, ground systems, and associated operations.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Reviewing contractor production activities and capabilities considering contract quality requirements; Participating in production, engineering, and other activities in developing plans and procedures for assuring quality and reliability of products; and Defining critical system elements and product quality characteristics and ensuring adequate controls over materials, sources, and manufacturing.

  • Performs assigned duties of the Quality Assurance Branch Chief, to include leadership, direction, and oversight of aircraft inspection activities, Procurement Quality Assurance (PQA), QA Surveillance Plans, and QA functions in shipping and receiving.
  • Ensures that all quality assurance audits, inspections, and verifications for flight activity are completed in a timely manner in accordance with all applicable regulations and guidance documents.
  • Ensures timely and thorough completion of QI/DI stamp program audits, as well as all GMIPs, configuration control, NAMIS reviews, work order reviews, and drawing control.
  • Ensures project and aircraft/experiment documentation reviews/assessments of work orders, NAMIS, TCTOs and TDs are assessed/reviewed for accuracy and completeness per applicable requirements.
  • Ensures assigned scheduled and unscheduled aircraft/vehicle special audits are conducted per specified requirements in NPD’s NPR’S and AFOPs.
  • Work with Center and Directorate managers, negotiate/obtain resources, and identify strategic objectives for the organization. Support the Center Management Board and participate in special Center-focused working groups as assigned.
  • Ensures support of the Mishap Program through independent verification of corrective actions, and as needed, support of mishap investigations as voting member or advisor.
