About the Position: Serve as a Supervisory Public Safety Dispatcher for the Directorate of Emergency Services Police/Provost Marshall Communications Branch at JBLM, WA.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Maintaining an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response; 2) Responsible for assuring personnel assigned to the shift carry out work assignments in accordance with instructions; and 3) Provide emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls ensuring emergency service personnel respond with appropriate personnel and equipment and give pre-arrival instructions to callers.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

NOTE: This Installation does not have the intervening grade at the GS-09 level. Time in Grade will be considered at the GS-08 and GS-09 levels of experience.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Communication Emergency Response Leadership Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

Major Duties:

  • Assign work and special duties through shift Four Lead Dispatchers.
  • Plan work schedules, revise schedule to meet peak workload periods and manpower shortages.
  • Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls.
  • Provides emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority's emergency medical dispatch system.
  • Must monitor status and availability of police, fire and medical field units to assure an appropriate response is made.
