This job is for the lead optometrist at a health clinic in rural Arizona, where you'll provide eye care to patients, manage the entire eye health program, and supervise a team of staff.
It's ideal for an experienced optometrist who enjoys both hands-on patient care and leadership responsibilities in a community-focused setting.
You'll also handle budgets, quality checks, and planning to ensure top-notch services.
Incumbent serves as the Chief Optometrist. In this role, the incumbent evaluates, develops, coordinates, and manages a comprehensive, high quality eye care program.
Responsible for the administrative and technical direction of optometry services.
Due to epidemiologic factors, the incumbent must possess advanced capabilities in diagnosing and managing ocular disease.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Optometry Series 0662 In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Oversee Optometry Program in its entirety; provide direct, comprehensive medical/optometric care to patients; provide supervision to Optometry staff by assigning work, evaluating work performance, interviewing candidates for positions and ensuring staff follow accreditation standards, ensure quality of care of department; Serves as Optometry and Eye care clinical expert in providing consultation.
Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Major Duties:
Responsible for providing direct quality optometry services. Responsible for establishing and overseeing a comprehensive departmental Quality Assurance Performance Improvement program.
Responsible for the development and execution of departmental annual budgets, ensuring department supplies and equipment are ordered and purchased timely.
Assist leadership with ongoing assessment of optometry needs, and the planning and implementation of all programs within the optometry department.
