Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NAVAL ARCHITECT in the Naval Architecture Division Manager for the Engineering Department of SUPSHIP GULF COAST.

This position is part of the Department of Defense Civilian Acquisition Workforce Personnel Demonstration Project. The NH-4 broadband level encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15.

This position is subject to work overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the pay band NH-03 (GS-13 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer analyzing the engineering architectural designs or specifications of surface ships to support the integration of shipboard systems, subsystems and components.

  • You will be responsible for contract administration of new construction, design, development and overhaul contracts. Engineering Department provides the engineering and technical management actions for the SSGC and represents NAVSEA on waterfront.
  • You will have the authority to make technical decisions for the Navy and to perform engineering control over the contractors through surveillance of their design, development and production engineering efforts.
  • You will be the structural expert and adviser to the SSGC CHENG and corresponding technical counterparts for all naval architect/structure matters including delivered ships through the OWLD window.
  • You will develop local technical documents, maintaining consistency with higher tier technical documents (i.e. naval architect/structure detailed work procedures, detailed construction drawings, internal shipyard and contractor process requirements).
  • You will ensure that safety and reliability requirements are addressed in all technical processes.
  • You will manage resolution of technical issues; provide technical insight; ensure issues and mishaps are properly staffed and coordinate programmatic authority issues with the Fleet or Project Manager.
  • You will represent NAVSEA in interpreting and ensuring compliance with technical requirements, standards, processes and policies.
  • You will ensure repaired, built or altered ships systems and components fully conform to the approved NAVSEA design configuration or follow the engineering change and non-conformance documentation and approval requirements.
  • You will provide engineering support to project teams while maintaining a core engineering staff.
  • You will manage all technical aspects of planning for their assigned activities, including technical decision-making, compliance and configuration control.
  • You will lead the waterfront technical efforts for construction, modernization, maintenance and repair, including implementation of configuration requirements.
  • You will be responsible for task assignments to division personnel and the coordination of efforts with the division (i.e. scheduling of workload as determined by work priority, manpower availability and complexity of the job).
