Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team in a border security office, where you'll set goals, coordinate with others to handle changing workloads, and provide advice on daily operations.

Full Job Description

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.

Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Tucson Field Office, located in Douglas, Arizona.

Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Coordinating with other organization supervisors and peers to establish unit objectives, goals, priorities and deadlines and formulate plans to meet substantial changes in workload.

Providing comprehensive advisory and technical services on substantive organizational functions and work practices.

Resolving complaints and grievances and making recommendations for solution of those referred to the next organizational level.

You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 03/10/2026.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity.

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide advisory and technical services to management.

This position starts at a salary of $108,455.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $140,994.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

In this Supervisory Mission Support Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals analyzing and refining existing work methods and developing new methods and procedures.

Typical work assignments include: Providing technical and administrative supervision to the division.

Establishing and carrying out specific action plans or accomplishing short term goals and objectives.

Developing and prescribing procedures and techniques and furnishing policy guidance to subordinates, assigns, and explain work requirements to subordinate staff to achieve efficiency of services rendered while increasing productivity.

Coordinating with other organization supervisors and peers to establish unit objectives, goals, priorities and deadlines.

Making decisions and resolves problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy.
