About the Position: This position is located in Inpatient Medical Records/IP REC at Evans Army Community Hospital Fort Carson , CO.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation This position is a TERM position NTE 2 years. It is time-limited and may be extended up to maximum of eight years. May become permanent if applicable.

Specialize experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 grade level in the Federal Service, which includes performing a variety of medical record classification system coding for Outpatient and Inpatient services; auditing medical/specialty diagnoses and procedures reported by providers; applying technical coding requirements; reviewing and analyzing medical data and records to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and coding guidelines.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Major Duties:

  • Coding and diagnosis related group (DRG) Assignments.
  • Oversees the activities and services of the ambulatory/inpatient sections.
  • Ensures facility meets Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Army (DA), and MTF goals and standards in all coding and diagnosis related group (DRG) assignment procedures, quality levels, and productivity expectations.
  • Reviews clinical records for purpose of obtaining all data pertaining to previous reporting.
  • Refers any discrepancies in the sequencing of diagnoses and procedures to the provider for resolution with justification for proposing changes.
  • Conducts initial and remedial individual instruction for assigned employees regarding proper records review, coding, and maintenance.
  • Performs qualitative analysis of inpatient medical records.
