GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, applicants must have ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as experience performing a variety of analytical paralegal or legal work which demonstrates a practical knowledge of law, the litigation and judicial process, and applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Also organizing and directing the activities of legal support staff; providing legal, technical, and clerical support to attorneys; providing technical advice to legal support staff; assisting attorneys and managing legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information; and/or performing a variety of complex administration support relating to the management and administrative support of the division.
Examples of specialized experiences may include the following: analyzing and evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and potential evidence; conducting legal research concerning precedents and past court decisions; composing legal briefs, summaries of analyses and decisions, and pre-trial documents; interviewing witnesses and various individuals who can provide insight into cases under review; and preparing evidence and documents to support recommendations.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade.

This position serves as a Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist responsible for providing management, technical and analytical work to the Litigation Support staff in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina.
Typical work assignments include: Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets goals and priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
Assigns work to subordinates based on difficulty of assignments and staff capabilities. Evaluates work performance of subordinates.
Provides technical advice and assistance to resolve problems referred by staff. Recommends promotions, awards, and disciplinary actions.
Interviews candidates for positions and provides input for selection by the United States Attorney. Participates in the selection of new employees to be under his/her supervision.
Hears and resolves complaints and grievances from employees, referring to the supervisor only those of a district-wide or precedent setting nature. Effects minor disciplinary measures as required.
Identifies development and training needs of staff. Identifies ways to improve production and increase the quality of the work of the unit and implements same.
Ensures that assigned staff follow governing administrative policies and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations.
Performs a variety of litigation support tasks necessary to process complex and/or voluminous electronically stored information.
Provides advice, customer support services, and project management services in connection with electronic discovery and evidence, litigation support projects, and litigation technology software applications.
Performs a wide range of information system analysis, development, and installation in support of District litigation support activities for assigned cases.
Evaluates current office systems on the legal support side of the office and proposes new or alternative procedures to improve the effectiveness of work methods.
Works with eLitigation AUSA and eLitigation support to streamline discovery processes Works with Public Affairs Officer to identify cases and issues that may be of public interest Performs a variety of administrative work to meet the operational needs of the assigned areas.
Research and coordinates information needed by attorney supervisors, division chiefs, the Administrative Officer, and/or top management for reporting purposes and develops special reports as required.
