Full Job Description

This position is a Supervisory Land Management Law Enforcement Officer, GS- 1801-14 working in Baileys Crossroads, Virginia for the Division of Refuge Law Enforcement, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Only experience and education obtained by 03/04/2026 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification.

Minimum Qualification [GS-14] I have at least one (1) year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower level, GS-13 in the federal service.

Specialized experience may include: 1) providing law enforcement management oversight for a refuge, field office, or on federal land.

2) drafting or developing law enforcement standard operating procedures, policies, or training guidelines. 3) preparing documents to justify budget, resources, equipment or personnel.

4) enforcing laws and regulations applicable to the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the JOA. Specifically, i. Area of Consideration. ii.

Time-in-grade (TIG) requirements as specified in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. iii. Time after competitive appointment as specified in 5 CFR 330.502. iv.

Major Duties:

As a Supervisory Land Management Law Enforcement Officer your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Serve as Deputy Chief for the Division of Refuge Law Enforcement, sharing responsibility for national program direction, policy and training development across the National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS).

Assist in the development of long-range plans, strategic goals, objectives, and work plans for law enforcement across the NWRS.

Formulate and execute the NWRS law enforcement budget, coordinate with regional offices, Department of the Interior, Office of Management and Budget, and Congress; oversee allocation of funds and ensure proper justification and execution of budgets exceeding $45 million annually.

Represent the Service at meetings, conferences, workgroups, and committees; deliver presentations explaining the significance of refuge law enforcement and its impact on resource conservation; engage multi-agency task force operations.

Serve as an advisor and staff level expert to the Directorate, Regional Directors and Regional Law Enforcement Chiefs on law enforcement issues that have Service-wide significance and impact.
