Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of counselors and advocates at a Navy support center, where you'll supervise staff, create treatment plans for individuals and families facing personal challenges, and deliver group sessions using proven counseling methods.

It's ideal for an experienced mental health professional with a background in therapy or social work who enjoys mentoring others and helping service members and their families build resilience.

The role focuses on prevention and support in a military setting, requiring strong leadership and clinical skills.

Key Requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or clinical/counseling psychology from an accredited program
  • State or U.S. territory license or certification as an independent practitioner in a relevant clinical field (e.g., LPC, LMFT, LCSW, psychologist)
  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-12 level or equivalent, including group treatment programs, needs assessments, evidence-based counseling, and providing advice on work/administrative matters
  • Two years of full-time post-master's supervised clinical experience
  • Two years of full-time clinical experience after obtaining independent licensure or certification
  • Passing score on any required state licensing examination
  • Eligibility as a TIER THREE clinical care practitioner per SECNAVINST 1754.8

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing group treatment programs to address a variety of clinical issues; 2) Assessing individual and family needs to establish treatment plans with behaviorally specific goals and objectives; 3) Employing various evidence-based and trauma-informed counseling to effectively interview and clinically respond to clients' needs; and 4) Providing employees with advice, counsel, or instructions on work and administrative matters.

This position is a TIER THREE clinical care practitioner with clinical supervisor eligibility. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements as outlined in SECNAVINST 1754.8:1.

Possess at least a master's or doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines :a.

Master's degree from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or an equivalent degree, OR b.

Master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or an equivalent degree, OR c.

Master's degree in Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) or an equivalent degree, OR d.

Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited university or professional school and a one-year APA accredited clinical internship2.

State or U.S.

territory license or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner in the fields of Licensed Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology.3.

When the state or U.S. territory licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates for privileging, must have achieved a passing score on that examination.4.

Must have engaged in two years, full-time, post-masters supervised clinical experience AND have two years, full-time clinical experience post independent licensure or certification. Major Duties:

  • You will provide expert-level supervision to professional Counseling, Advocacy, and Prevention (CAP) staff within the Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC).
  • You will be responsible in identifying employees' developmental needs and provide or arrange for training.
  • You will be responsible in reviewing and evaluating CAP program areas, identifying gaps in existing services, including assessment and treatment related issues.
  • You will serve as the CAP expert-level representative attending, coordinating, or assisting in coordinating various meetings and committees.
