Job Description

Summary

This job is for the head of the Engineering Division in the Seattle office of the U.S.

Army Corps of Engineers, where you'll lead a large team of engineers, architects, and support staff to handle planning, design, and execution of engineering projects.

You'll advise the district commander on technical matters, ensure dam and levee safety, and manage career development for engineering professionals.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at GS-13 level directing program planning, resourcing, policy guidance, and execution of engineering programs

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serves as Chief, Engineering Division for the Seattle District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Using knowledge of professional engineering theory, practices and methodology, the incumbent serves as a key staff advisor to the District Engineer.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Through subordinate supervisors, directs a staff of 150-200 professional engineers, architects, scientists, geologists, engineering technicians, and administrative and clerical staff to accomplish the mission of the Seattle District.
  • Serve as consultant and adviser to the District Commander on all matters pertaining to work accomplished by the Engineering Division.
  • Serve as the District Dam and Levee Safety Officer.
  • Serve as the District Activity Career Program Manager (ACPM) for all District team members who fall under the Army Career Program for Engineers and Scientists, CP-18.
  • Full responsibility for planning, directing, supervising, coordinating, executing, and reviewing all Engineering Division activities.
