Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team to manage and maintain Linux-based computer networks for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, ensuring smooth daily operations and supporting IT projects for criminal investigations.

A good fit would be someone with strong experience in IT system administration, team leadership, and handling technical details in a high-stakes government environment.

It requires supervising staff while developing policies and solving network problems to keep everything running securely and efficiently.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN) for the NAVAL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE (NCIS).

All Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) positions are in the excepted service. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.

GS-14: I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in conducting the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Experience in conducting the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in representing the Information Technology team in meetings and conferences with counterparts internal and external to the organization and briefing management on all Information Technology projects and requirements.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in developing and maintaining technical policies and procedures and administering internal controls and quality assurance plans; developing network management and system administration guidelines, policies and procedures, writing comprehensive operating instructions and preparing training materials for operating personnel.

In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning, organizing, and directing teams engaged in a broad range of system development and maintenance activities.

  • You will ensure efficient day-to-day operations of the Linux-based networks, which includes providing administrative and technical supervision.
  • You will independently coordinate and integrate the work of subordinates (staff and contractors) and makes decisions and recommendations on complex problems.
  • You will troubleshoot software applications through understanding of basic programming and scripting languages such as Python and Bash
  • You will review, develop, recommend and execute directives and guidance for implementing enterprise level computing infrastructure services that abide by Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), DON and NCIS security requirements.
  • You will maintain expert knowledge of emerging developments in systems engineering and system design.
