Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead firefighter at a Navy base in Texas, where you'll supervise a team during fires, rescues, and emergency responses while ensuring everyone follows safety rules and gets proper training.

It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in firefighting and a passion for managing people in high-pressure situations.

You'll help keep the base safe by handling hazards and coordinating with other shifts.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-08 level or equivalent, including fire control, rescue operations, hazard reduction, communications, hazmat incidents, and fire training
  • Possess all required certifications: Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer I and II, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Airport Firefighter, Hazmat Awareness/Operations/Technician/Incident Command, Driver Operator Pumper (DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard accredited)
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification
  • Ability to coordinate shifts, balance workloads, and manage personnel during emergencies
  • Skills in verifying personal protective equipment use and ensuring safety protocols
  • Experience persuading teams to adopt changes in procedures amid conflicts or limitations

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAS KINGSVILLE TX.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents; and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT).

  • You will coordinate with officers on other shifts and stations to ensure work accomplishment, training, and priorities are met.
  • You will verify personnel use the correct personal protection equipment during firefighting incidents to ensure safety.
  • You will ensure that workload is balanced at the fire/rescue scene or in the station.
  • You will manage status and progress of work and make adjustments as needed.
  • You will persuade employees to accept changes in firefighting procedures and policies in light of organizational conflict, competing objectives, or resource limitations.
