This job involves leading and delivering fire training programs for a Navy base, including hands-on sessions for high-risk scenarios like shipboard fires and nuclear emergencies, while managing schedules and evaluating drills.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-08 level or equivalent, including coordinating training schedules and serving as a lead instructor
  • Proficiency in delivering and evaluating hands-on training for shipboard firefighting, nuclear reactor emergencies, and radiological emergencies
  • Knowledge of specialized principles for fire protection and emergency response in nuclear surety and ordinance scenarios
  • Possess and provide verification for all required certifications: Fire Officer I and II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Firefighter I and II, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Hazmat Incident Commander, Hazmat Technician, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aerial, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), and Marine Firefighter Certification (awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard)
  • Ability to plan, develop, implement, review, and evaluate comprehensive fire department training programs
  • Experience in supervisory personnel management and preparing training schedules
  • Participation in base-wide exercises and drills as part of the Installation Training Team

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER of Training at NAVSUBASE KINGSBAY.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1 Written Communication: Coordinating and supervising the day-to-day delivery of the department's training schedule.

Serving as the lead instructor for various core and specialized subjects to ensure training is delivered according to the established curriculum., 2.

Developing Others: Delivering and evaluating hands-on training for high-risk events, including shipboard firefighting, nuclear reactor emergencies, and radiological emergencies.

Assisting the Assistant Fire Chief of Training in refining curriculum and practical drills for these specialties., 3.

Specialized Hazard Response Proficiency: Using specialized principles and techniques to perform and evaluate fire protection and emergency responses during shipboard firefighting., 4.

Specialized Hazard Response Proficiency: Using specialized principles and techniques to perform and evaluate fire protection and emergency response to nuclear reactor - radiological emergencies. 5.

Specialized Hazard Response Proficiency: Using specialized principles and techniques to perform and evaluate fire protection and emergency response to nuclear surety and ordinance emergencies.

This position requires the incumbent to possess & provide the following certifications: Fire Officer I and II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Firefighter I and II, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Hazmat Incident Commander, Hazmat Technician, Driver/ Operator Pumper, Driver/ Operator Aerial.

Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) and Marine Firefighter Certification. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.

  • The Battalion Chief of Training plans, develops, implements, reviews and evaluates the comprehensive fire department training programs at the installation
  • Serves as a member of the Installation Training Team (ITT) supporting and evaluating base wide exercises and drills
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, semiannual training schedules for review and approval by the Assistant Chief of Training
  • Conduct recurring proficiency training in each functional area of fire protection
  • Perform limited supervisory personnel management responsibilities
