Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead firefighter at a Navy base in Rhode Island, where you'll oversee fire safety operations, train teams, investigate fire causes, and improve department procedures.

It's ideal for someone with years of hands-on firefighting experience who enjoys managing people and ensuring safety in a high-stakes environment.

You'll need strong leadership skills and all the required emergency certifications to qualify.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent, including managing fire planning, providing fire protection advice, and reviewing procedures for improvements
  • Possess all required certifications: Firefighter I and II, Hazmat Awareness and Operations, Hazmat Incident Commander, Driver Operator/Pumper, Fire Officer I, II, III, Fire Inspector I and II, Fire Instructor I and II (awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard)
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
  • Ability to conduct fire investigations and report findings to command authority
  • Experience directing training programs for fire department personnel and indoctrinating others in fire safety fundamentals
  • Skills in employee counseling, handling complaints, and maintaining records/reports for procurement and policy recommendations

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAVAL STA NT RI.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following :1) Managing, planning or making short or long-range forecasts for issues related to fire to meet technological requirements; 2) Providing assistance, advice, and recommendations concerning fire protection/prevention; and 3) Reviewing reports and procedures to make suggestions on improvements to firefighting techniques and /or policies.

NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position.

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Hazmat Incident Commander, Driver Operator/ Pumper, Fire Officer I, II, III, Fire Inspector I, II, Fire Instructor I and II.

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician.

  • You will conduct investigations of fires to determine cause and reports findings to responsible command authority.
  • You will direct the planning and development of all training programs for the Fire Department and auxiliary firefighters, and the indoctrination of civilian and military personnel in the fundamentals of fire safety.
  • You will counsel employees, adjusts informal complaints and/or grievances through discussion with employees and bargaining unit representatives.
  • You will maintain records, prepare reports, graphs, charts, and make recommendations relative to material procurement, department policy, procedures, and methods.
