As a Supervisory Facilities Operations Specialist you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and improving the learning environments at schools served by the Bureau of Indian Education.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-1640-13: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service that involved managing a maintenance program for office or apartment building complexes, hospitals, recreation facilities, military, schools, or other special-purpose installations, including planning maintenance activities, and developing preventive maintenance programs; Conducting surveillance activities over construction and maintenance operations performed by a variety of private contractors, including reviewing project plans and specifications for workability, informing contractors of construction and reporting requirements, and supervising operations for conformance with project plans; Performing maintenance or construction work, including estimating material and labor costs for a variety of construction or maintenance projects (such as construction or maintenance of brick, frame, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and other type structures ranging from one- or two-story buildings to larger structures), directing actual work operations, and maintaining appropriate contacts with the organization funding the project; Identifying developmental and training needs to improve production.

As a Supervisory Facilities Operations Specialist, GS-1640-13, your typical work assignments will include the following under supervision: Provides high quality construction design, review and participates in project management activities related to the management of school facilities.
Establishes and maintains review systems for facility management to ensure that government requirements and needs are met and validated.
Plans and schedules work that promotes a smooth flow and even distribution to achieve organization goals and objectives.
Plans and manages the operations, maintenance of buildings, grounds and other facilities at both tribally controlled and bureau operated school facilities while minimizing the disruption of school operation.
Prepares scopes of work, cost estimates, and grant and contract packages for the design and analysis of Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) projects.
Works with staff to resolve grievances and other sensitive issues. Provides training, direct supervision to staff of employees to plan, assign and evaluate work.
Advises staff regarding policies and procedures.
