Full Job Description

As a Supervisory Equal Opportunity Investigator (Deputy District Director) at the GS-1860-15, you will be part of the Office of Field Programs, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

The incumbent of this position serves as Deputy District Director and shares in the overall responsibility of the district.

The incumbent is primarily responsible for the supervision and coordination, through subordinate supervisors of the enforcement functions of the district.

For the GS-15: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the federal service.

Specialized experience includes experience enforcing federal employment discrimination laws for private sector employers; developing or managing long-range plans, strategies, and goals for investigative and enforcement programs; and supervising day-to-day operations through subordinate supervisors.

Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-14 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-15 level.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements (e.g., time-in-grade and qualification requirements) within 30 days of the closing date specified in the vacancy announcement.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • Coordinates, monitors, and supervises investigations of all charges filed in the District, Field, Area, and Local Offices.
  • Oversees the Charge Receipt/Technical Information Unit, which provides administrative and technical support to enforcement units for notice service, counseling, pre-charge interviews, and inquiry intake.
  • Provides supervisory oversight of Enforcement Units conducting comprehensive investigations of employment discrimination charges from planning through analysis and reporting of findings.
  • Oversees the Systemic Unit responsible for reviewing and recommending subjects for in-depth investigations of alleged pattern-or-practice employment discrimination.
  • Ensures cases are investigated expeditiously, quality standards are maintained, appropriate legal theories are applied, and required timeframes are met.
  • Oversees negotiated settlements and conciliation agreements between the EEOC and respondents and provides administrative oversight in addressing noncompliance.
