Summary

This job involves leading a team in managing environmental protection efforts at a naval ship repair facility, focusing on ensuring compliance with laws, preventing pollution, and handling audits and inspections.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL BRANCH, OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY, HEALTH, AND ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of the NAVAL SHIP REPAIR FACILITY .

The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze.

Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: managing an environmental program as a subject matter expert on environmental laws and regulations for the development of pollution prevention projects and the coordination of external and internal audits, inspections, and reviews in accordance with regulatory compliance..

  • You will direct technical evaluations and provide consulting services for environmental protection, engineering, design and project development required to correct environmental deficiencies.
  • You will act as the subject matter expert (SME) on matters of air, land, and water environmental protection.
  • You will coordinate the preparation of requests to abate pollution sources to minimize or eliminate environmental liabilities
  • You will review installation contracts proposed for the purchase of services involving laboratory methods, solid waste disposal, industrial waste disposal, used oil disposal, and other services that have the potential for environmental impact.
  • You will coordinate external and internal audits, inspections, and reviews for regulatory compliance.
  • You will perform daily supervisory personnel management responsibilities, both technical and administrative, to the Environmental Branch.
  • You will develop plans for meeting long-range resource needs based on workload forecasts, budget constraints, available manpower, and regulatory requirements.
