Full Job Description

These positions are located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), within multiple Institutes/Centers.

As a Supervisory Data Scientist you will serve or senior advisor to Leadership in managing, supervising, and overseeing analytical and business solutions programs to support data-driven decision making.

Basic Education Requirement: In order to qualify for the Data Scientist GS-1560 position, you must: A.

Possess a bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a field that is directly related to the position; OR, B.

Possess a combination of education (at least 30 semester hours) and additional appropriate/related experience that is the equivalent to a major in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field directly related to the position.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you qualify at the GS-15 level, if you meet the following qualification requirement: You must demonstrate in your resume at least (1) year of qualifying experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, which includes: managing data science programs and research activities to support organizational programs and decisions; providing guidance and expertise to management officials and program staff on data science techniques and methodologies in forecasting and improving program operations; coordinating and advising on data science programs and concepts with organizational officials and staff; and providing supervision or direction to other staff in managing programs and services.

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

  • Direct and oversee the OPAE staff in planning and executing programs related to data and portfolio analyses and workforce planning.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Executive Officer and senior staff on data science, analysis, and modeling techniques for budget, workforce, and scientific portfolio evaluation.
  • Develop and implement data-driven methodologies for budget forecasting, workforce analysis, and scientific portfolio evaluation.
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve analytical methodologies and communicate results effectively.
  • Oversee the development of analytical models and methodologies for evaluating different programmatic options and outcomes.
  • Ensure data validity and integrity, including data cleansing, variable assessment, and appropriate use in analytical projects.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice on long-term resource needs and future program requirements based on complex data modeling.
