To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.

To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience working more responsible posts, such as Control Center, Front/Rear Gate, and Visiting Room.

Experience providing training and guidance to lower-graded officers. Experience and knowledge of BOP regulations and policies.

Experience initiating/participating in searching of inmates, inmate housing units and inmate working area to prevent introduction of contraband.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

**Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.** Major Duties:

Occupies a supervisory position involving the direction of a shift, consisting of correctional officers assigned to various posts and/or programs.

Responsible for carrying out the directions of the Captain relative to planning, directing and administering inmate programs, activities, work and recreational pursuits.

Serves as a direct liaison between the Captain and correctional officers, and as such is responsible for the conduct, morale, performance and training of the correctional officer complement.

Authorizes changes in institutional operations when necessary to meet emergency situations.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.

The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
