Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of air traffic controllers in a busy airport facility, overseeing daily operations, providing training and guidance, and ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely.

It's a supervisory role where you'll handle discipline, improve processes, and step in as the main manager during shifts.

A good fit would be someone with years of hands-on air traffic control experience who enjoys leading teams and solving operational challenges.

Key Requirements

  • At least 1 year (52 weeks) in an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or higher regional/headquarters position
  • Or 1 year (52 weeks) in a Management Support Specialist (MSS) position in an Air Traffic Services (ATS) facility
  • Or facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility
  • Provide narrative responses addressing four Managerial Selection Factors (Leadership and Management Dimensions) with references
  • Experience in planning and directing air traffic operations in a Level 5 terminal facility
  • Ability to provide first-line supervision, training, coaching, and team building to Air Traffic Control Specialists
  • Skills in reviewing work processes, effecting disciplinary actions, and improving organizational performance

Full Job Description

Serves as an Air Traffic Control Specialist Operations Supervisor (OS) in a Level 5 terminal facility responsible for planning and directing operations within delegated areas of responsibility.

Candidates must show specialized experience.

Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Must have held an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or above regional or headquarters positions for at least 1 year (52 weeks); OR 2) Must have held a MSS position for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility.

(Note: an employee who has been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility that is upgraded is considered to meet the qualification requirements of the upgraded position, since he or she has been performing the higher-graded work; OR 3) Must have been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility.

NOTE: There are no restrictions on who can apply to MSS vacancies at those facilities with 3 or less MSS levels.

In addition to the qualifications listed above for MSS positions, the chart on MSS positions will be used to determine which career level applicants are qualified to make application.

Candidates will be evaluated on four "Managerial Selection Factors" Managerial Selection Factors: Candidates must provide separate narrative responses to address his/her experience in MWP Selection Factors 1 through 4.

Provides first-line supervision to a team of Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) personnel.

Provides training, coaching and guidance to subordinates and facilitates team building throughout his/her area(s) of responsibility.

Continuously reviews work processes to assure that results meet he agency's mission and the customer's needs, add value to facility services and are efficiently achieved.

Serves as a member of the management team to improve organizational performance and to meet strategic goals.

When assigned as Watch Supervisor, assumes overall management and supervision of the operation.
