This summer job involves teenagers helping city health officials check if stores are following rules that prevent people under 21 from buying tobacco products, by attempting purchases during audits.
Workers team up with adults to visit shops, report what happens, and keep track of the checks.
It's a good fit for responsible high school students aged 16-20 who are detail-oriented, good at communicating, and interested in public health work.
The Teen Worker assists us with complying with St.
Louis County, Missouri Municipal Code § 602.300 which states that is unlawful for any person to give, barter, sell or cause to be sold, buy for, distribute samples of or furnish tobacco in any of its forms, or cigarette papers, to any person under twenty-one (21) years of age.
Teens ages 16 but less than 21 years of age are needed to conduct compliance audits with adult staff members at retail facilities to ensure under aged youth are unable to purchase tobacco products.
The ordinance requires the department of health to conduct compliance audits on 50% of our permitted tobacco establishments annually using teens.
This position will be used throughout the year as needed to assist us in meeting our target goal.
The typical starting salary is $14.00 hourly depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience as well as budgetary considerations.
Conducts set number of compliance audits with adult staff according to ordinance and procedures.
Communicates to the public in a professional manner.Equivalent to High School Diploma / GED.
Some positions require college level courses in chemistry, bacteriology, biology or other natural laboratory science work.
