If you are a construction professional eager to kickstart your career with the Commonwealth, Engineering District 5 has an exciting opportunity for you. We are currently looking for a Summer Seasonal Transportation Technician to engage in various technical tasks related to transportation construction projects. In this role, you will ensure that all work aligns with approved construction plans, standards, specifications, and contract documents at job sites. This position not only allows you to apply your skills in a real-world environment but also enables you to play a crucial role in the successful execution of essential infrastructure projects that benefit the community.

Requirements

In this position, you will be responsible for a range of technical tasks focused on inspecting materials and workmanship in highway construction projects. Your role will involve performing inspections and conducting material tests to ensure adherence to contract specifications and certification standards. You will also be tasked with maintaining comprehensive documentation of project activities, including any changes to field plans, progress reports, quality control assessments, and calculations to verify the consistency of materials used. Furthermore, you will assist in inspecting work zone traffic control signs and devices to confirm their proper placement according to established specifications and standards. Daily reporting will take place at job sites in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and/or Schuylkill counties, or at the District Office in Allentown, PA.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Overtime and shift work may be required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a Class C non-commercial driver's license.
