Summary

This role involves working as a substitute mentor for families with deaf or hard-of-hearing infants and toddlers, providing home visits to teach about Deaf culture and model activities that support child development.

You'll help parents connect with community events and answer their questions with sensitivity and respect.

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our school. We are looking for knowledgeable, caring and innovative Substitute Deaf Mentor with the Parent Infant Program for the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing. There is a position available in St. George.

Principal Duties
As a Substitute Deaf Mentor you will:

Provide home-based services to families with deaf/hard-of-hearing children, age birth to three years, in the areas of Deaf-hood.Prepare to share experiences and answer families' questions about Deaf-hood.Perform weekly home visits to children and families, and models for parents the activities to be worked on with children during the week.Help families access deaf community activities and events.Respect and affirm the diversity of the deaf community within discussions with parents.The Ideal CandidateThe Ideal Candidate will possess:Must be deaf or hard of hearing.Must have American Sign Language (ASL) skills.Must have knowledge of Deaf culture.Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.Communicate clearly and effectively.Maintain strict confidentiality.Successful completion of a criminal background check.Why You Should Join Our TeamUtah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind employees make a positive difference to the lives of USDB students and their families and enjoy seeing the difference they make every day.The AgencyTo learn more about the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, please click here.

Additional Information Some positions require considerable & strenuous physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, etc, and recurring lifting.Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g.

being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
