Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.
Customs and Border Protection, Office of Trade, Office of The Executive Assistant Commissioner, Office of Trade Communications, Strategic Messaging Branch, located in Washington, DC.
Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Applying advanced communication principles and techniques to develop, edit, and review talking points, press materials, and written products for senior leadership and media engagement.
Managing media facilitation, including crafting strategic messaging and coordinating responses to press inquiries for a large organization.
Synthesizing complex information and policy guidance into clear, accessible written materials for diverse audiences, including internal staff, external stakeholders, and the public.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Utilizing analytical tools and conducting research to support the development of communication products, policy documents, and process guidance.
Analyzing and interpreting mission-related laws, regulations, and policies to ensure accuracy and compliance in all communications materials.
Planning, prioritizing, and delivering a broad range of communications assignments, including talking points, media responses, policy guidance, and reporting deliverables.

This position starts at a salary of $102,415.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $158,322.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $158,322 (GS-13 Step 10).
In this position you will provide strategic communications, administrative, and policy development support and assist with the facilitation of the execution of planning, reviewing, and managing communication products and program operations at Customs and Border Protection, Office of Trade, Office of The Executive Assistant Commissioner.
Major duties may include, but are not limited to: Coordinating and executing a variety of communication activities supporting CBP, Office of Trade (OT), including media engagement and facilitation, internal OT press releases and other internal (blogs) and external products (communication plans).
Developing, refining, and coordinating talking points, press materials, and strategic messaging for use by senior leadership in media interactions and public communications.
Engaging with managers and subject matter experts to understand organizational needs, distilling complex information, and producing clear, accessible written materials that clarify policy guidance and internal processes.
Reviewing and updating internal communication policies and processes to ensure clarity and relevance, making recommendations for improvements as needed.
