Full Job Description
The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Storekeeper III in our Water Distribution and Wastewater Division. This person performs warehouse, inventory and administrative management. Provides customer service and material issuance. Controls stock. Manages personnel.
Requirements
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Performs warehouse management by identifying and reviewing customer requirements, ensuring adequacy of available supplies, obtaining best price quotes and delivery from vendors, monitoring vendor performance, ensuring vendor compliance with contract specifications and city codes and standards and planning, coordinating and organizing the receipt, storage and distribution of supplies.
- Performs inventory administrative management by preparing reports showing cost, depreciation and inventory value, setting default levels on stock, formulating the price agreement drop off system coordinated with the custodial contract and compiling bills to be paid.
- Provides customer service and material issuance by filling customers requirements, processing requisitions, assisting customers in identifying parts, supplies and services and providing technical support.
- Controls stock by maintaining inventory records, using a computerized inventory management system, managing the security and movement of materials, determining optimum inventory investment levels, performing quality control checks, processing receipt documents in the system, identifying and cataloging new materials and establishing inventory records.
- Manages personnel by directly supervising and training subordinates, performing quality control checks on employee performance, monitoring, counseling and reviewing employee performance, writing performance reviews and providing around the clock emergency availability while functioning as duty standby storekeeper.
- Climbs stairs and ladders; bends, stoops, pushes, pulls, lifts, and carries up to 75 lbs.; may stand for more than six hours.
- Preferred candidates must have extensive knowledge of Waterworks components with an emphasis on Water Meters, Valves, Repair Parts, Brass Materials and other high value items.
- Acts as main administrator of ordering items designated on Large Contracts (CT) and master agreements (MA).
- Performs administrative duties by compiling and distributing invoices, filing, holding invoices, contacting and confirming with vendors, maintaining records, researching and correcting discrepancies, reviewing accuracy of computer postings, writing information on acquisition request forms and providing information.
Maintains the building and grounds by delivering trash to containers, maintaining an orderly warehouse space, ensuring proper handling of material handling equipment, sweeping storehouse floor, mopping storehouse office area, picking up trash and debris, landscaping as needed, monitoring the heating and air-conditioning, ensuring building integrity and organizing materials in all Storehouse owned property.
This includes both storehouses, Bay 20 and the material storage yard.
- Must be Forklift Certified and demonstrate high proficiency for safely operating various forklift variants, pallet jacks and other motorized equipment in confined storehouses handling difficult material.
- Safely transport challenging and hazardous material from storehouse to desired delivery locations.
Qualifications
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Five years experience in parts operations.
