Job Description

Summary

This job involves installing, operating, and maintaining HVAC automated control systems and energy management systems for buildings on the University of South Carolina's Columbia campus.

It requires hands-on technical work with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related mechanical systems.

A good fit would be someone with several years of experience in HVAC maintenance, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well with teams and lead projects.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma and 5 years of experience in HVAC mechanical and building control systems
  • Job-related accreditation from a technical school or skilled trades program with 3+ years of experience (or equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and experience)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Exceptional knowledge of HVAC controls, EMS systems, mechanical equipment, pumping, steam, chilled/hot water systems, air conditioning, heating, ventilation, electrical, and related trades
  • Experience in building mechanical systems and/or advanced refrigeration systems in a diversified maintenance environment
  • Strong leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, initiative, and effective communication for working with teams and preparing reports

Full Job Description

Perform technical work in the installation, operation and maintenance of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) automated control systems and the maintenance of building automated Energy Management systems (EMS) at the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus.

Requirements

  • Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • Driver’s License

  • Experience in building mechanical systems and/or advanced refrigeration systems with knowledge and experience in a diversified maintenance environment.

Additional Information

  • Exceptional working knowledge ofHVACcontrols andEMSsystems, knowledge of mechanical equipment, pumping and steam systems, chilled and hot water systems as well as a sound knowledge of air conditioning, heating, ventilation, electrical and other related trades.
  • Must possess good leadership abilities, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface and work well with subordinates, peers, outside departments and other business professionals.
  • Must have the ability to lead by example, solve problems, take initiative to provide services, develop strong customer relationships, measure cost and performance, keep accurate records, communicate effectively, develop proper procedures, define actions to resolve specific problem situations, communicate to supervisor and management; and prepare reports.
