This job involves working with communities affected by HIV in Tarrant County to make sure their voices shape local programs aimed at ending the HIV epidemic, including building partnerships, running social media, and creating support networks for those living with HIV.

The role supports grant-funded initiatives without any supervisory duties.

Full Job Description

The Ending the HIV Epidemic Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of the Administrative Agency including being a team member focused on ensuring the voices of people with HIV are fully incorporated in the Ending the HIV Epidemic treatment grant activities within the Tarrant County HIV Administrative Agency.

This position focuses on community engagement and input of people with HIV and ensuring the needs of people with HIV are represented in all grant initiatives while working with community partners and sub-recipients to drive system changes to the local HIV system of care.

The Community Engagement Specialist will also oversee social media for the HIV Administrative Agency, lead a stakeholder group, and build a peer advocacy program.

Requirements

  • Coordinates and oversees a comprehensive program to ensure the populations most heavily impacted by HIV are involved in the development of acceptable approaches and programmatic activities to end the HIV epidemic in Tarrant County.
  • Utilizes social media and other technologies to ensure partnership with local communities most impacted by HIV.
  • Develops and leads a stakeholder group of people with HIV to provide ongoing feedback on the implementation of Ending the HIV Epidemic initiatives.
  • Provides community education on the impact HIV has on communities of color.
  • Collaborates with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and advocacy groups to further the goals of Ending the HIV Epidemic.
  • Builds a peer-based program to support people with HIV across the continuum of care.
  • Works with HIV prevention programs to enhance the linkage to care process for the newly diagnosed.
  • Works with consultants on ensuring Ending the HIV Epidemic contract deliverables meet the needs of people living with HIV.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, community health, health education, or a related field or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in community health, community organization, HIV prevention and/or services, program development, public health, or a closely related area.
  • Experience working with people living with HIV.

Additional Information

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
