Full Job Description

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA).

As a SPECIAL ASSISTANT, GS-0301-13, you will serve as a Special Assistant to the Director and/or Deputy Director of OEDA, providing high-level analytical, advisory, and operational support on matters affecting OEDA, CMS programs, and Departmental priorities, coordinate cross-cutting initiatives, and conduct complex analyses.

In order to qualify for the GS-13 , you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) Preparing written and oral briefings, summaries, and updates for leaders to support decision-making; AND (2) Coordinating projects and communications across multiple teams to track customer inquiries, priorities, manage deadlines, and ensure timely responses; AND (3) Providing operational support by organizing information and tracking action items.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.

  • Serve as a senior advisor to OEDA leadership by analyzing complex management, operational, and policy issues and providing strategic recommendations.
  • Coordinate high-priority, cross-cutting initiatives across OEDA, CMS, and HHS, including milestone tracking, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop executive-level communications, including briefings, talking points, correspondence, and analytical memoranda for senior leadership.
  • Provide workforce planning and human capital advisory support, including analysis of staffing trends, personnel actions, and workforce data.
  • Support operational and administrative functions such as tasking coordination, budget tracking, clearance processes, and executive scheduling.
