As a Special Assistant, you will make recommendations that impact the development, change, and interpretation of policies and programs, provide advice and guidance on complex, sensitive and critical issues essential to advance the OCFO mission..

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 02/27/2026.

Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service.

The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 02/27/2026.

GS-14: You qualify at the GS-14 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position.

You must have experience performing the following duties: Planning, scheduling, and carrying out major projects concerned with the analysis and evaluation of programs or organizational effectiveness; Serving as a consultant or advisor to management on resolving issues that significantly affect various programs; Assessing and improving programs, processes, and systems to establish guidelines to resolve administrative issues.

  • Organizational Location: This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, within Office of the Chief Financial Officer and are assigned based on the need of the agency.
  • Serves as a personal consultant and principal advisor to management on a wide range of critical projects and programs of broad scope and impact.
  • Recommends short and long-range program plans, goals, and objectives, and milestones which are the basis for changes in the organization and administration of programs affecting multiple sections, branches, divisions, and business lines.
  • Serves as a liaison for critical agency-wide programs.
  • Advises and recommends approaches for avoiding and resolving problems and reducing conflicts.
  • Identifies and resolves program or project issues for the Division, OCFO and/or USCIS.
  • Assists in writing correspondence, memoranda, briefings/announcements, Standard Operating Procedures, or other documents relevant to OCFO activities.
