This job is for a special agent who investigates potential crimes, safety issues, and irregularities within the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to protect nuclear operations.
The role involves gathering evidence, writing reports, and working with various officials under supervision.

This position is located in the Office of the Inspector General, Investigations Division. The supervisor is the Special Agent in Charge. This position is non-bargaining unit.
This position is subject to NRC security ownership restrictions and Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting and requirements.
This position is eligible for Law Enforcement Availability Pay, which provides an additional 25% of the employee's basic rate of pay.
In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as experience providing technical, and administrative oversight for various programs or activities at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which contribute to the success of the agency's programs, operations, and/or activities.
You will be assessed on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics): Ability to conduct investigations or inspections, prepare written summaries and reports, and analyze results and/or findings in line with good investigative report writing techniques.
Knowledge of applicable administrative policies, practices, and procedures within the Federal Government and the NRC.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with NRC personnel, private industry, law enforcement personnel, Congressional personnel, and other personnel.
Ability to learn the correct techniques and use of firearms and defensive tactics.
Knowledge in either the collection, preparation, documentation, analysis and/or preservation of physical and documentary evidence or information pertinent to the Federal government.

Candidates are subject to the maximum age of original entry into law enforcement positions with this agency, which is 37, unless they have previous service in a Federal civilian law enforcement position covered by special law enforcement retirement provisions or are a preference-eligible veteran.
If selected for this position, you will be required to carry and use a firearm. Furthermore, maintaining firearm proficiency will be mandatory.
Failure to meet or maintain the requirements for the Criminal Investigator series 1811 and/or the NRC OIG Investigation's Handbook will result in the immediate removal from employment, no later than 60 days after official notice is issued to employee.
Major Duties:
*RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE PAID FOR THIS POSITION* Serves as a Special Agent in the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) with responsibility, under the direction of the Special Agent in Charge (SAC), to assist with investigations and event inquiries as required to assure the integrity of operations of the U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB), including matters involving nuclear safety concerns.
Under the direction of the SAC, assists in investigations of possible violations of criminal laws or regulations and other irregularities in the administration of Commission programs and activities, particularly those that may impact nuclear safety and regulatory compliance.
Identifies, collects, examines, and preserves evidence under the supervision of senior special agents and/or the SAC using controlled and documented analytical and investigative techniques.
Establishes preliminary findings for investigations as they relate to the jurisdiction of the NRC, including issues affecting nuclear safety, and documents these investigations in accordance with professional standards.
Ensures that investigations are documented in accordance with the professional investigative standards developed and promulgated by the Inspector General community, with due regard to applicable laws and regulations.
Selects, gathers, and organizes information from various sources such as other departments and agencies, including the Departments of Justice, Treasury, the FBI, other Inspector General offices, and NRC regional locations, serving as a liaison as required to support investigative activities.
Performs liaison activities in NRC regional locations to coordinate investigative efforts, share information, and support inquiries related to NRC programs and nuclear safety oversight.
Performs other investigative duties as assigned by the SAC and the Investigations Division's senior special agents.
In the performance of duties, may be required to handle, review, access, and/or protect classified, sensitive, or other information that, if not protected, could potentially cause exceptionally grave damage to national security.
