Summary

This job involves overseeing the daily operations and upkeep of the city's landfills, including managing staff, scheduling tasks, and ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely.

Key Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or related field, plus 4 years of experience in solid waste, recycling, construction, mining, or similar, including 2 years supervisory; or High School Diploma/GED plus 6 years relevant experience with 2 years supervisory; or 8 years heavy equipment operation in related fields with 2 years supervisory
  • Texas Class “B” CDL Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Valid Texas Municipal Solid Waste Operator “A” License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one year of appointment
  • Ability to supervise and participate in landfill operations and maintenance
  • Skills in scheduling work assignments, coordinating projects, and maintaining staff discipline and productivity
  • Experience conducting performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and assisting with hiring
  • Proficiency in maintaining attendance, personnel, accident records, and other landfill logs

Education and Experience
: An Associate’s degree, or higher, in Business, Public Administration or related field, and four (4) years of experience in the collection or disposal of solid waste, recycling or hazardous materials, construction, mining or closely related field, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; or High School Diploma or GED and six years experience working in landfills, construction projects or solid waste operations, including two (2) year of supervisory experience; or eight (8) years experience operating heavy equipment in landfills, construction, mining or closely related field, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class “B” CDL Driver’s License or equivalent from another state. Valid Texas Municipal Solid Waste Operator “A” License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one (1) year of appointment.

Requirements

Under general supervision, supervise and participate in the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s landfills.

Qualifications

Schedules work assignments and shifts. Involves: Coordinating and supervising work activities and projects. Maintain discipline and productivity of assigned staff; conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as required; assist Superintendent or Engineer with hiring decisions. Maintain attendance, personnel and accident records and other landfill records and logs.
