Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a social worker in a military medical center in San Diego, California, where you'll assess and treat patients with substance abuse, addiction, and mental health issues through counseling, evaluations, and personalized treatment plans.

About the Position: This position is within Directorate of Mental Health Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program, Naval Medical Center and Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego CA.

State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. Major Duties:

  • Exercise a broad range of professional knowledge and independently performs assessments, diagnosis of substance disorders, addictive disorders, and psychiatric disorders in accordance with the Psychiatric Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).
  • Determine the patient' type and level of treatment based on American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Guidelines and community standards. Plans for and provides treatment services for co-occurring disorders.
  • Establish rapport, systematically gather data, determine the readiness of the individual for treatment and change, and apply accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders.
  • Screens for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Exercises a broad range of concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the substance abuse program and addiction medicine outpatient program to conduct comprehensive substance abuse treatment of patients.
  • Analyze and interpret data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities with the individual served, formulate mutually agreed-upon, measurable treatment goals and objectives.
  • The Social Worker is responsible for implementing a coordinated clinical treatment that includes identifying patient needs and concerns, developing and revising the patient treatment plan and continuing care for co-occurring disorders.
