Summary

About the Position: This is a developmental Social Services Assistant located at Fort Drum, New York This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Salary negotiation is available for those new to Federal employment. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with direct patient support; recommending resources based on patient needs; assisting with psycho-educational or support groups; or maintaining patient files.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

Add the two percentages.

GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with patient evaluations to determine required services; assisting with psycho-educational or support groups; reviewing patient files for to assess resources needed; and maintaining patient files.

OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Position can be filled at any level (GS-6; GS-7; or GS-8) with noncompetitive promotion to the next grade levels are authorized until you reach the full performance level of GS-8; pending time in grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the next higher/target level grade duties.

Major Duties:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure appropriate utilization of mental health care resources.
  • Independently maintain open communication with soldiers identified as high risk by clinical mental health providers.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational and/or support groups as needed.
  • Provide client information on referrals and resources.
  • Follow mental health administrative discharges during the process, maintaining communication with soldier and entering progress in the database.
