The current vacancy is a temporary full-time position with the Department of Health in Halawa to Kalihi.

Salary: $3,900 to $4,933 per month (SR-13, Step C to I)

Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits afforded to an employee in a permanent position with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

Requirements


Performs duties in support of professional social service functions. The performance of such work requires knowledge of various techniques and procedures and the ability to work as a support person to a professional worker. Such knowledge is typically gained through a combination of on-the-job experience, related classroom instruction and supervised program activities. This position determines continued eligibility; makes referrals to standard community resources and/or professional staff and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or experience which demonstrated the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions, a high degree of verbal skill, and the ability to make basic mathematical computations, including averaging.

Specialized Experience: Four (4) years of experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in such programs as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.

Applicants for Social Service Assistant V must possess at least one (1) year of experience comparable to the Social Service Aid III level.

Social Service Aid III: Independently provides all supportive services for a unit or team; participates in team activities; does limited field work including checking in with clients, encouraging them to use available resources, following up on cases on a periodic basis, and relaying information, problems and observations to the professional staff.
