Full Job Description

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP.

This National Guard position is for a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT), Position Description Number PDD2734000 and is part of the Mississippi National Guard.

This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position will become tenure 3.

The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee but will be considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force.

You can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. If a permanent resource becomes available, incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard.

Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 12 months experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams.

Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys.

Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments.

As a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT), WG-3806-8, you will provide sustainment base maintenance in support of regional Army National Guard (ARNG) Aviation assets and supports field maintenance in accordance with ARNG Aviation priorities.

The AVCRAD maintenance activities ensure aircraft of the region are ready and available to support Federal and State missions.

The AVCRAD performs National Maintenance Program (NMP) repair of rotary wing aircraft and components, limited depot airframe repair, aircraft painting, major airframe repair, depot-level component repair, and component repair and management, as directed by Army Materiel Command (AMC), and prioritized by the National Guard Bureau (NGB).As an intermediate level sheet metal worker, the incumbent works in situations which utilizes skill and knowledge of the sheet metal mechanic occupation.

The duties performed at any one time might include assignments less difficult than the journeyman level sheet metal mechanic or work up to journeyman level which are performed under close supervision.

MAJOR DUTIES: 1. Assists to fabricate, modify, and assemble a variety of rotary wing aircraft and aircraft sheet metal structural parts, components, and portions of assemblies and systems.

Supervisor or lead establishes specific work priorities.

Supervisor, lead, or journey level mechanic spot checks completed work and checks work documents for accuracy and compliance with required maintenance and modification. (45%) 2.

Assists with lay outs and fabricates individual aircraft sheet metal parts from various sheet metals, extruded metal, honeycomb material, composite materials and various other metal alloys.

Assists in cutting, bending, forming materials using hand tools, powered tools, and computer numerically controlled machines (CNC) to include CNC 2D pattern cutting water jets and CNC 2D pattern cutting lasers.

Assembles formed parts. Assists in conducting hardness and conductivity testing to verify heat treat condition of aluminum alloys. (45%) 3.

Works with higher graded journey level sheet metal mechanics to accomplish larger and more complex operations.

Attends on-the-job training on assigned projects and related tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary. Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets.

Ensures that material and equipment are properly stored, protected, and maintained. May be required to serve on maintenance assistance teams through the supported region.

(10%) Performs other duties as assigned.
