This role involves supervising inmate workers, maintaining safety and cleanliness at a corrections training academy, and handling daily administrative tasks like inspections and rosters during various shifts.
It suits someone with a background in security or corrections who is organized, physically fit, and comfortable enforcing rules in a structured environment.
The position requires completing an 8-week training program upon hiring.
Transport and provides supervision to inmate workers assigned to yard detail.
Conducts inmate counts.
Serves as first responder.
Ensure classrooms are set up as required.
Inspects, maintains and completes the appropriate forms for the state vehicles that are assigned to the academy.
Conducts monthly hazardous chemical inventory.
Prepares and manages bed rosters for student residents, issues and/or receives dorm keys and ensures dorm rooms are inspected and cleaned on a weekly basis.
Submit commissary orders to the supervisor on a monthly basis.
Conducts weekly safety and sanitation inspections of the buildings and grounds.
Monitors students’ compliance with the training academy rules and agency rules.
Generates daily inmate worker assignment roster.
Other related duties as needed and assigned by the supervisor.
Shifts are Sunday-Thursday 2p to 10p, Monday-Friday 6a to 2p, Monday-Friday 10p to 6a.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
