Job Description
Summary
This job involves supervising the operations of a central bus terminal for transporting inmates securely across various routes, including medical trips and parole transports, while ensuring safety, discipline, and adherence to policies.
A good fit would be someone with experience in corrections, security, or law enforcement who is comfortable making quick decisions in high-stakes environments and committed to inmate rehabilitation.
The role requires living near the Kershaw area and obtaining a commercial driver's license shortly after starting.
Key Requirements
- High school diploma and 18 months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work
- A bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for half of the required experience
- Must obtain CDL within six months of hire
- Must live in proximity to Kershaw bus route terminal
- Must successfully complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire
- Must be certified by SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months
- Ability to provide instruction on keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraining equipment
Full Job Description
- Under the direct supervision of the sergeant, ensures the central bus terminal operation meets daily objectives completely and follows agency policies and procedures.
- Provides direction and instruction to inmates and/or correctional officers in a program of discipline, safety, security, and rehabilitation of inmates.
- Provides proper instruction on use of keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraining equipment when necessary.
- Instructs and counsels inmates, as required.
- Monitors inmate movement within the confines of the central bus terminal.
- Provides safe transport of inmates in all custody levels on PCR, medical, transfers, parole, and extradition routes (male and female).
- Safekeepers (SK) and Restrictive Housing Unit (RHU) inmates are also transported.
- Makes and uses good supervisory judgement and decisions when transporting inmates.
- This position serves as a Kershaw bus RT and you must live in proximity.
- Must have your CDL within six (6) months hired in the position.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
