Summary
This job is for a Sergeant at a secure correctional facility in South Carolina, where you'll oversee security staff during shifts, handle inmate monitoring and complaints, and ensure smooth operations in a prison setting.

- Must successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six months of hire
- Must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire
Full Job Description
- Supervises the performance of security personnel assigned to shift.
- Assists with preparation of employee evaluations, disciplinary action and counseling sessions.
- Assists with conducting shift briefings with all officers.
- Remains familiar with all activities occurring during the shift to keep subordinates informed of changes affecting inmates and operations.
- Makes routine and non-routine security checks of work areas, living area units.
- Conducts formal and non-formal counts.
- Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action; instruct and counsel inmates as required.
- Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
- Performs essential and marginal duties of subordinates.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements
South Carolina State Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
