This job is for a Transportation Sergeant at a South Carolina prison, where you'll organize and oversee the safe movement of inmates to places like courts and medical visits, while keeping track of vehicles and staff licenses.
It's a hands-on role that requires strong attention to detail and the ability to follow strict safety rules.
A good fit would be someone with experience in security or corrections who is reliable, good at planning, and comfortable working in a high-stakes environment.
Under the supervision of the Transportation Lieutenant, coordinates and schedules all inmate transportation runs, ensuring timely and secure movement between correctional facilities, courts, medical appointments, and other authorized locations.
Assures all assigned officers possess a valid and current driver's license and maintain up-to-date records for compliance and operational readiness.
Communicate with correctional staff, to confirm transport logistics and maintain adherence to safety and legal protocols.
Prepares and maintains detailed transportation records, including route plans, vehicle logs and incident reports.
Any other duties as assigned by their supervisors.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
