DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Senior Project Manager will assist with geotechnical engineering and consulting analysis for a broad array of construction projects. This may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided.

Key Responsibilities
• Split time and responsibilities between field assignments and office assignments.
• Lead portions of technical project work from project scope through final deliverables under the direction of senior staff.
• Apply academic and industry knowledge, as well as learnings from prior work experience, to execute project work.
• Coordinate with specialized design and environmental consultants to ensure all reviews and testing protocols meet city and federal standards.
• Collaborate with Supervising Engineers on the full lifecycle of environmental reviews, from initial proposals and contract drafting to final reporting.
• Coordinate and review construction materials testing (CMT) to ensure concrete, soil, steel, and other materials meet project specifications.
• Analyze complex environmental data and material test results to develop practical solutions for the field.
• Act as the lead responder for environmental emergencies or material failures during construction, providing immediate expert recommendations to keep projects on track.
• Brief upper management on project status, evaluate vendor proposals, and define clear objectives for multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects.
• Proactively identify and champion new technologies and management programs that will optimize operational operations and improve safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There is occasional minor discomfort from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature. May require walking on rough surfaces during on-site inspections and investigations.

This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position. Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Six years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geo-technical, environmental or a closely related field are required.

Substitutions: A Master's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the above experience requirement.

Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.


LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and Asbestos/Lead Surveys. Ability to lead high-level meetings and translate technical data into clear advice for non-technical stakeholders is hirghly desired.


**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
