DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external clients/customers.
  • Assists clients by navigating individuals and families through the HHD process and connecting them to programs and services.
  • Maintains an orderly and professional reception area.
  • Serves as a community resource person as required.
  • Serves as backup to the Community Liaison.
  • Participates in internal and external outreach activities.
  • Promotes City of Houston services and provides basic educational information to the community.
  • Assesses community needs during outreach efforts.
  • Coordinates services among leasing agencies, community agencies, and HHD programs.
  • Maintains an up-to-date Community Resource Book.
  • Creates communication methods/materials that promote inclusion, awareness, and understanding of partnering agency activities and outcomes.
  • Participates in special departmental projects such as AIM, PSS, Vision, warming/cooling centers, disaster relief, and other assigned initiatives.
  • Performs backup duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
  • Completes special project assignments successfully and consistently with required accuracy and timelines.



PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting,
temperature and air conditions.

PHYSICAL SKILL:
Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of clerical/customer service experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred to support diverse clients and community outreach.
  • Experience working with the public in a customer-facing role.
  • Experience participating in outreach activities or community engagement events.
  • Ability to create clear and effective communication materials to support partnering agency awareness.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain an orderly reception area and keep the Community Resource Book up to date.
  • Ability to serve in backup roles (e.g., Community Liaison) and support special projects such as AIM, PSS, Vision, warming/cooling centers, and disaster response.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with clients, community partners, and internal staff.
  • Flexibility to support departmental needs, special assignments, and varying community initiatives.
