Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading the development and rollout of artificial intelligence and emerging technology strategies within the U.S.

Patent and Trademark Office to improve business operations and innovation.

You'll guide teams, advise top leaders on risks and ethics, and ensure these technologies align with government rules and goals.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 level in federal service, focusing on AI/ET strategy development

  • Experience advising senior executives on AI/ET innovation, risk management, and ethical considerations to boost decision-making
  • Skills in coordinating cross-agency AI/ET initiatives and engaging stakeholders for technology integration and policy alignment

Our mission here at Emerging Technologies & Innovation Division (ET & ID) is to promote the use of new technology, innovative solutions, and experience design practices across business product delivery teams.

At ET & ID you can work with business product delivery teams to deliver high quality/high value Artificial Intelligence/Emerging Technology (AI/ET) solutions in support of desired business outcomes.

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position.

You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. OPM Qualifications Standards are available at Administrative and Management Positions.

Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.

To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-14.

Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience developing and implementing enterprise-level AI/ET strategies, governance frameworks, and modernization policies aligned with federal directives and organizational objectives.

AND Experience advising senior executives on AI/ET innovation, risk management, and ethical use to enhance agency decision-making and operational efficiency.

AND Experience coordinating cross-agency AI/ET initiatives and stakeholder engagement to harmonize technology integration and policy alignment.

AND Experience evaluating AI/ET program performance and developing recommendations that drive digital transformation and enterprise accountability.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. This position is telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy.
